the horse latitudes, again

Written by William F. DeVault on October 22, 2009 – 8:21 am -

I don’t get "writer’s block", I wander into the "horse latitudes".  That annoying area of the world where the winds do not blow and ships that wander through or into those seas are likely to find themselves without wind to drive their sails.

So, here I am.  I feel the world around me, I acknowledge some extraordinary people in my life, past and present.  But the winds are silent, my sails are slack.

The mirror, the lens, the channel, whatever metaphor or allegory you prefer for my writing, it is undamaged, unimpaired, but there is no light, no fire, nothing to pass through it to the page.  I am uncomfortable, like a man who has not eaten in a few days…I know this hunger will not kill me, but I am not enjoying the sensation.

For the want of a muse…
