Saturday evening

Written by William F. DeVault on April 5, 2008 – 6:36 pm -

An unusual Saturday is winding down behind me, full of mild curiosities and amusements.

Spent a good portion of the morning talking the Candy. Thank you, Skype. She was in good spirits and had already, thanks to the 6-hour time difference between us, spent her morning shopping and dealing with household issues needing her attention. People wonder why I am always in motion? It is to catch up to her with her quarter of the day headstart.

Later in the day we were in touch a few times, but I suspect she fell asleep watching "Red Dragon" (a movie I found vastly inferior to the more stylist adaption by Michael Mann as "Manhunter" starring William Petersen, Dennis Farina, Brian Cox, Kim Greist, Joan Allen and Tom Noonan). Another aspect of our relationship, as long as we remain separated by 6 hours (7 when I am not under Daylight Savings Time) is that she generally is in for the night, safely tucked in and slumbering, hours before I start to slow down. It makes my evenings a little lonely.

Then, several false alarms when my cellphone went off at times she might normally give me a goodnight call, turning out to be, in order, my mother, my friend Jazz and my peer and co-author Dan McTaggart. A motley crew, all with worthy contribution, but none of the meat for my soul that my peacat brings. Sigh.

The mailman delivered me my first shipment of As such and I was delighted to finally hold my newest child in my arms.

I wrote a new poem and posted it to the Amomancer blog, made a post to our private blog and continued updating tags and categories on this blog, starting back in May of 2005.

I played some World of Warcraft with my son, Elric. I prepped for an upcoming trip and fixed a few ancient typos in some of my writing.

I still feel strangely becalmed without her voice in my ears, but I am also content that this is just a transitional state (or distance), albeit a most pleasant and glorious time. She touches me at a distance like no one has in the same room.

Oh, and my rather snide poem "Narcissus" I posted on Amomancer? I received some evidence it may have pricked where it was pointed.

My only question now is whether I stay up late to catch the Johannesburg dawn, or go to bed early and wait out her call tomorrow? (It begs the old Muslim parable of the Devil and the Sheik).
